In honor of Women's History Month, join historian and New York Times bestselling author Dr. Kate Clifford Larson for a free presentation on Harriet Tubman and William Lloyd Garrison's friendship and enduring contributions to the civil and women's rights movements. In addition to their work as civil rights activists—Tubman as a famed conductor on the Underground Railroad and Garrison as the founder and editor of the influential abolitionist newspaper, The Liberator—Tubman and Garrison were also dedicated supporters of women's suffrage. Tubman advocated for women's rights in speeches delivered in New York, Boston, and Washington, D.C. and served as a delegate to the first annual convention of the National Association of Colored Women, while Garrison worked to ensure that women could take on leadership roles in abolitionist organizations and published supportive editorials, speeches, and reports in his newspaper.
