Celebrate National Poetry Month by attending a poetry event featuring Brockton Poet Laureate Philip Hasouris

Reading a Philip Hasouris poem is to merge on a moving journey saturated with insight that serves as a road map for the reader through the landscape of love, tragedy and hope via the restorative power of poetry. Philip’s genre of poetry is life and his poetry is exquisitely attuned to the life he describes.

His first book Swimming Alone deals unflinchingly with the conjunction of love and loss. His most recent poetry collection

Blow out the Moon is his courageous response to the tragic anoxic brain injury suffered by his wife, Linda. This has led to his innovative work with the Brain Injury Association at their support group gatherings & caregiver conferences.

His current book Light of the Moon follows him through the passing of Linda and his journey through the stages of grief.

Committed to the restorative power of the arts, he is a facilitator of expressive healing workshops throughout the state for groups coping with medical crisis and bereavement. Philip has expanded the workshops to include our youth, recognizing bullying and its effects on the pressures of everyday life, creating a non-judgment safe environment.

In 2010 he received the Mike Amado Spoken Word Warrior Award.

On August 28 2021 He was appointed the first Poet Laureate of Brockton Massachusetts.
